RE: Campground Recommendation Needed - Central Florida

I second Lake Louisa and Clerbrook. Clerbrook has heated pools. The state park has nothing and charges as much. Clerbrook has a golf course and activities on the week ends.Clerbrook and Lake Louisa are listed under Clermont,FL. The Kissimmee KOA is not far from Disney E and Lake Magic Oncore is about 7 miles from Main Gate. Better check I think Disney takes the lights down on the 2nd or 3rd.

RE: Our first trip, need advice

When we travel, we drive just around 63 mile per hour because of our toad. That with fuel stops works out to 50 mile per hour or 9 hours for 450 miles. You will be in the mountains and will need to gear down, that alone adds extra time. Did you check mapquest, and the Good Sam trip routes, we have found them more RV friendly than google.

RE: Older Class A Insurance cost

Call GMAC, Progressive, or someone else who insures RV's. The insurance on our MH, full replacement 1st 5 years current model and agreed value $150,000 next 5 is less than the insurance on our new Saturn. I would give you the exact figure but the policy is in the MH in FL.$700 a year on an 18 year old small MH is way too much. Especially since if there is an accident all you will get is book value. Try www.goodsam/RVinsurance.com for a quote online.

RE: Extended Warranty and Service Plans

We had a limited extended war on our last coach, never needed it. This coach 1st 4 years didn't have one, replaced inverter, slide pump, board on heat pump,microwave/convection oven,($1900 total) some of this probably caused by bad inverter. We just purchased a limited($500 deduct) on the coach in case the frige decides to go south. An extended war is just an insurance policy, if we had had one this time we would have been ahead. If the frige lasts another year we won't renew the war.

RE: Packin while on the road

We have handguns but don't carry them because you can miss and hurt someone else. But we do have a short shotgun, legal length after the DC snipers were captured near our home. Of course we leave it at home while touring Canada.

RE: One More Newmar Complaint

Wagonmaster, I sent you a PM. Norm sorry to hear about your problem, Winnebago extends the war on any documented problem, Newmar must be having money issues.

RE: '93 Holiday Rambler 34' questions

Better check the rating on the trailer receiver, some gassers have 3500, some 4000 and some 5000 depending on frame and manufacturer.

RE: first time buyer class a motorhome

Winnebagos have house plumbing, not the snap on hoses. You can go to the Winnebago site and download your wiring diagrams, I haven't looked lately but you could also get your plumbing diagrams at one time. Fiberglass roof is great. Most of those old eyebrow coaches from the 60's and 70's that are still on the road are Winnebagos so the box holds up. They have lots of outlets and are easy to clean. I just cleaned a friends 2000 Mountainaire and had to take 4 screws out of each ceiling vent to wash the filters. We have had some problems with this coach but all vendor probs, microwave, etc. We had a 2000 for 5 years that we never spent a penney on.

RE: Sunshine RV Park, Lake Placid, Fl

Robins Nest has decent sites, a small pool and clubhouse. Camp Florida is well laid out in circles with rig backed up to laundry and bathhouse. Park models on the outside. A small clubhouse and nice pool. Lots of French Canadians stay there. The American Legion in town is very active.

RE: Overnighting in Flying J??

At most of the newer J's you can find a spot along the grass at the restaurant if you need to put the bedroom slide out. We find Walmart is quieter and usually look for a supercenter and ask at the service desk.

RE: Encore in Clearmont and Ft Myers

ELS took over Clerbrook RV Park as well as all the Encore parks. They have been spending money at Clerbrook. The power and water have always been good. There are 3 sections, Lifestyles where all the older park models were. Many were removed. Crossroads, mostly MH sites, many good ones, some unlevel ones. The other one where the big pool is, Terrace I think, having a senior moment has new park models and many sites, some good, some bad. They keep all 3 pools warm and have many activities and 3 clubhouses. Clerbrook is one of my fav parks, I gave up my membership because my husband bought property in FL. I plan to get another one if I can. If you are a monthly you will get a good site. Members can reserve ahead but can lose their sites to monthly renters or season renters. Something which irked my hubby. My favorite park in Ft Myers is Siesta Bay, am unfamilier with the Equity Lifestyles parks there(Encore, Mid Atlantic, Thousand Trails and many more campgrounds are owned by Equity) Encore Lake Magic at Kissimmee is owned by them and has nice sites. Not much in the way of activites, mostly people going to Disney and 1/2 the park are French Canadians who have their own activities. Things may have changed, haven't stayed there for 3 years. They do rent about 40 sites to Outdoor World.

RE: Diesel Price experience

We paid a high of $7 plus and a low of 4.59 (diesel) this summer on a 6000 mile trip so all of these prices look great. I guess by spring when we come home from FL, they will be creeping up again. Gasoline is down to $2.43 here in PA, hope it soon gets lower. We saw gas at 2.17 in Maryland yesterday.

RE: Best route to Florida from PA

Go on down 95 as long as you hit DC before 5:30 am and after 10:00am till 4pm keep on 95 probably the same for Baltimore , go thru Jacksonville on 95 continue to I-4 ( traffic at Orlando is bad 4 to 7 PM and 7 to 9 am. Sat no problem. We sometimes use 81 but that is way out of the way for you. Do the mapquest on both routes but 76 to 81 is a good 2 hours and Hbg is 1000 mi from Disney, Saturday traffic is not a problem. Coming home, reverse the rt, just leave before traffic starts in Orlando , leave before 2 pm, then Saturday will be a piece of cake thru cities home.Happy Trails

RE: why do day/night shades get such a bad rap?

Most of the complaints come from Winnebago owners from about 03 on.. Their vendor left rough edges on the holes the strings go through. We have had to have 5 of ours restrung. I like them but was looking at the honeycomb blinds the other day and might replace the day/night shades with something easier to clean.

RE: This Flying J ..Nasty..Nasty

Thx for the laugh of the day. Some of these replies are funny. I keep a record of all the J's we have stopped at over the years. Pumps not maintained, dirty restaurant, no parking, etc. then we know which ones not to use. As Tex says if one you usually use goes downhill, write to corporate. Today the local paper announced that the new owners of Golden Corral had closed because of the economy ,WRONG, they were filthy and we the regular customers didn't go back. A company like J likes to keep both the truckers and the traveling public happy.

RE: fuel stop advice

Flying J's are usually 250 miles apart. After the VA one at 104 there will be one in SC, then GA., then ST Augustine FL Get their credit card for cash prices at the truck pumps. We have never had water in the seperator using J's fuel.

RE: The Next Exit vs. Exit Now?

I was told several years ago that Affinity had bought the publishing rights to Exit Authority. I hope this Exit Now is following that blueprint. I use The Next Exit but it isn't as easy to read as the old one. Mine fall apart so we really use them to plan our fuel and other stops.
